Welcome to WeakleyReport.com!
Mission Statement The mission of WeakleyReport is to provide factual information, as well as perspectives on current events that will help guide Christians and non-Christians alike towards a better understanding of what Christian social involvement implies. Let me be clear that I do not actively seek to convert anyone. There are no steps to salvation anywhere on this website. While I do provide access to literature that may have the effect of converting someone, and I personally rejoice in this occurrence, my intention is for the literature to have an impact on the reader's understanding of what it means to be a Christian in this world. My hope is that visitors to this site who are Christian will grow in their faith and service in the world as they learn more about what is on this site, and the externally linked and advertised resources provided throughout. A Little More About Myself I am forgetting a quote as I write this, but I believe that there is such a thing as Christian patriotism for one's country. I think it has to do with a love for the people of one's home town, or country. This is not the same as nationalism because I do not think a Christian can wholly support "national interests" that increase national power at the expense of other people's human rights. I believe there is a way for Christians to be patriotic about their homeland that allows government, and society to exist in every nation as part of the created order and yet at the same time allow Christians to make eternal life with God their first priority. A sense of patriotic caretaking is what I am referring to that puts the commandment "love God and love your neighbor as yourself" into action until God comes to establish his perfect New Creation and we are given reward for caring for the creation in the meantime. Since I am an American I do focus on the United States, the history of Western civilization (once known as Christendom), and many of the things that have shaped it along the way. I recognize that this is the history of only one part of the world. I also recognize that Christ and the Biblical story is the history of the whole world and has meaning for every culture though this does not always translate to the same political, economic, and social structures and institutions. Western nations are the way they are because of the evolution of historical events and the effect of Christian teaching upon those changes. Other cultures cannot be expected to follow every aspect of the Western model. There are however Biblical truths about the nature of human beings that need to be taken into account when any society shapes its political, economic, and social structures. These truths have implications for every nation, including those in the West, and it is rather this focus which I wish to address on this website. |
